CANDE SIG Emerging Scholar Award
About the Award
The Citizenship and Democratic Education (CANDE) Special Interest Group seeks to recognize the outstanding contributions and future promise of emerging or early-career scholar(s), who stand to positively impact the field of citizenship and democratic education around the world. Impact to the field may encompass theoretical and empirical research, practitioner inquiry, policy work, and/or public engagement.
Eligibility
Award Description
Up to two Emerging Scholar Award winners will be honored at the business meeting of the CANDE SIG at the CIES annual meeting and presented with a monetary award of US$300.
Application Process
Members of the CANDE SIG are encouraged to nominate an emerging scholar that meets the award eligibility requirements (self-nominations are also encouraged). Along with the name of the scholar and affiliation, submissions must include:

Nominations will be peer-reviewed. After a first round of screening applications for eligibility and completeness, an independent committee comprised of established CANDE SIG scholars will review and evaluate all applications.
All nominations/submissions must be sent to CANDE SIG Chair Nicole Webster ([email protected]) by March 18th, 2022. The winner will be notified by April 1th, 2022.

Eligibility
- Nominee must be a member of CIES and the CANDE SIG.
- Nominees must have an earned PhD or Ed.D and have graduated no more than five years prior to the award submission date.
- Nominees need not have an academic appointment to be eligible.
- Nominees for the CANDE Emerging Scholar award must have a demonstrated track record of contributions to the field.

Application Process
Members of the CANDE SIG are encouraged to nominate an emerging scholar that meets the award eligibility requirements (self-nominations are also encouraged). Along with the name of the scholar and affiliation, submissions must include:
- A 500-word maximum cover letter from the nominee describing her/his/their qualifications for the award and contributions to the field.
- An updated CV from the nominee
- At least one single author recent publication (within the last three years).
- Two letters of support from individuals familiar with the nominee’s scholarship and/or public engagement, which speaks to why the nominee is deserving of the Emerging Scholar Award.
- Proof of current CIES and CANDE SIG membership status [e.g., membership dues invoice or email notification]
