CIES 2017, Atlanta is a wrap!
Once again, CANDE was busy at CIES. We featured ten panels including two highlighted sessions, one co-sponsored roundtable, with more than 150 attendees. In addition, we cosponsored (along with Purdue University’s James F. Ackerman Center for Democratic Citizenship) a second pre-conference workshop entitled “Competing Frameworks: National and Global in Citizenship Education.” The workshop was organized by Dr. Anatoli Rapoport, who crafted a wonderful session with more than 10 participants and many others in the audience. Much like last year’s workshop, led by Serhiy Kovalchuk and Anatoli Rapoport, this alternative format created a useful space to share and generate feedback for works-in-progress. Lastly, we hosted another successful happy hour which gave our members a chance to meet and mingle more informally.
Many of you attended the CANDE SIG Business meeting at CIES, where we discussed potential future workshop topics, paper session topics, as well as members’ ideas for CANDE events. You can access a list of member-generated ideas here . The leadership team will reflect on this list to shape future conference opportunities. The full minutes from our meeting can be found here.
Given how many of you expressed interest in getting to know one another, we thought it worth pointing you to two resources that we have in place and are working to expand. One is the CANDE member spotlights included in newsletters. This is a long-term process of building a membership list and encouraging connections and collaborations across shared interests. Please write to us and let us know if you would like to be featured. The second is the Member publications page feature the newest publications from our members. Please share with us your new publications and we will post it (or the citation) on our site.
